The 2014 Legislative Session has adjourned, bringing an end to the 2013-2014 legislative biennium. I want to provide you with some highlights from a session of major accomplishments.
We made historic investments in education - $725 million from early childhood to post-secondary. Froze college tution for students at U of M and MnSCU schools. Raised the minimum wage. Enacted the Women’s Economic Security Act, which aims to close the gender pay gap, strengthen workplace protections and flexibility for pregnant mothers. Invested in broadband. Strengthened domestic abuse laws. Approved $1 billion for public works projects, including a new science educaton center for Metropolitan State University. We made Minnesota the 12th state to give everone the freedom to marry the person they love.
And we passed a fair and balanced budget, rejecting a decade long cycle of deep budget cuts and dishonest shifts and gimmick. Minnesota was put on sound fiscal footing, delivering key investments for a stronger middle class.
My priority will continue to be working to build a prosperous Minnesota where all of us have the opportunity to succeed.
